Profile
“It was bound to happen, a star born… in the 21st century. Density, core, simplicity, character, mastery: remember this name,” Diapason writes of soprano Libby Sokolowski. A Juilliard Graduate, Libby Sokolowski made her European debut at Theater St. Gallen in the role of Pamina in Die Zauberflöte, and was subsequently invited to join the ensemble of the theatre beginning in 2022/23. She was invited to join the ensemble of the theater starting in their 2022–2023 season.
Most recently the promising young soprano made her role debuts as Rosalinde in Die Fledermaus, Sieglinde in Wagner/Loriot’s Der Ring an einem Abend, and as the soprano soloist in Verdi’s Messa da Requiem, where she was hailed for her “full, broad, dramatic soprano.” Sokolowski reprises this role anew in the 2023/24 Season, in addition to further role debuts including Elvira in Verdi’s Ernani and Mathilde in Rossini’s Guillaume Tell.
In the summer of 2021, Ms. Sokolowski was invited to perform with the Tiroler Festspiele Erl in a Gala concert of opera arias and scenes with the Orchester der Tiroler Festspiele Erl, presenting operatic works by Tchaikovsky and Verdi. The same summer Sokolowski was a participant of the Internationale Meistersinger Akademie in Germany where she performed scenes from Puccini’s La rondine. Season 2021/22, Ms. Sokolowski was invited to join the prestigious Académie de la voix at the Fondation des Treilles, exploring scenes from Donizetti’s Anna Bolena and Verdi’s Il corsaro with soprano Patrizia Ciofi.
