Polish Soprano Gabriela Legun is a rising star. Born in Warsaw, Gabriela Legun completed her studies at the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music.
This Season 2024/25, marks a series of exciting role debuts for Gabriela Legun. At Teatr Wielki, the Polish National Opera, Legun debuted two important new roles: Amelia Grimaldi in a new production of Simon Boccanegra, and Juliette in concert performances of Roméo et Juliette. This Spring 2025, she went on to debut yet another legendary role: Desdemona in Otello at the Grand Theatre in Poznań, Poland. In addition to her debuts on the operatic stage, Gabriela has appeared in a series of special concert performances. This June 2025 she performed alongside leading international tenor Jonathan Tetelman for concert performance in Kraków and this July returns to the concert stage alongside Artur Rucinski. Next Season 2025/26 Legun will make her debut in Köln as Liu in Turandot.
Season 2022/23, Gabriela Legun was a member of the Opera Academy at Teatr Wielki. During her studies, the young soprano was invited to make her operatic debut in the theatre as Pamina in Die Zauberflöte. She went on to make both her German Debut at the Komische Oper Berlin and Italian debut at the Teatro Regio di Torino in the same role. Spring 2024, Legun made her house debut in Brussels at the Théâtre de la Monnaie in a new creation of Rivoluzione e Nostalgia, which included excerpts from the first sixteen operas of Giuseppe Verdi in an ambitious two part production.
Since her professional debut as Cunegonde in Leonard Bernstein’s Candide at the Baltic Opera in Gdańsk, Legun has been invited to perform at many of Poland’s leading opera houses. Following her debut in Warsaw, she appeared in the theatre anew as Mimi in La bohème, and as Hanna in S. Moniuszko’s The Haunted Manor. She sang her first performances as the title role of Lucia di Lammermoor, Adina in Donizetti’s L’elisir d’amore, and also as Micaela in Carmen in Bytom.
In Wroclaw, Legun performed the roles of Mimi, Micaela and Donna Anna in Don Giovanni. In Poznań, she reprised the roles of Desdemona and Pamina. In Krakow, Gabriela performed anew in Bernstein’s Candide as Cunegonde. Following her debut at Opera Gdańsk, Legun was invited to return for the roles of Mimi and Micaela. Other roles in the artist’s developing repertoire include Contessa Almaviva in Le Nozze di Figaro, Giulietta in I Capuleti ed i Montecchi. Marguerite in Faust, the title role in Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s masterpiece Iolanta, and the title role of Rusalka.
Dedicated to her craft, Legun has received numerous awards for her achievements. In addition to her recognition as Best Female Voice and first prize of the Ewa Kleinitz award at the Concorso Lirico Internazionale di Portofino in 2021, Legun was awarded the Silver Medal for Merit to Culture – Gloria Artis, and received two scholarships from the Minister of Culture and Art in both seasons 2019/20 and 2020/21. In 2019, she was awarded the first prize at the Ada Sari International Vocal Artistry Competition. In 2020, she received the award for the best opera singer at the 15th Jan Kiepura Theatre Music Competition. In 2022, she was recognized and honored with the Marta Eggerth and Jan Kiepura award for the most promising Polish Voice at the International Stanislaw Moniuszko Vocal Competition. In 2024, Legun won the first award at the fifth Adam Didur International Opera Singers Competition in Bytom, Poland.
